Haughmond Hill - Fancy a walk ?

Haughmond Hill is a large woodland that has wonderful views, wild deer and a mixture of hard surfaced and rough walks.

The BardonTrail stops close to the main viewpoint overlooking Shrewsbury and the last section is a natural surface over the bank of an Iron Age hill fort.

The Corbett Trail is a 1.3 km circular trail on a broad, hard-surfaced path. There are plenty of benches around the trail where you can sit and enjoy the wood. In one or two places the gradient is steep for short distances.

The Hill is open from dawn to dusk and there is free parking for 100+ vehicles on generally hard-packed surface. There are public toiletsand a temporary café open daily except Mondays & Tuesdays (and Bank Holidays). Wheelchair accessible picnic benches are available. Well controlled dogs are welcome (dog bins provided)

Getting there

Take the road directly opposite the Church up towards Somerwood. Then take the first turning left. The car park is on the left.

The Wrekin
Walks

Your natural destination when visiting the Wrekin is to the top and on a clear day you will be rewarded with spectacular views (said to take in 17 counties). The summit is also an impressive Iron Age hill fort and the path guides you through the distinctive outer and inner entrances, known as Hell Gate and Heaven Gate respectively.

Nearby is the Wrekin's less famous but just as lovely sister hill The Ercall. It's now a nature reserve and looked after by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust. Use these leaflets (available from Shropshire Wildlife Trust HQ in Shrewsbury and local Visitor Information Centres) to explore ancient oak woodland and enjoy wonderful views.

Where is it? The Wrekin is approximately 10 miles from Upton Magna . Car parking is available at the foot of the hill, on the minor road leading from Junction 7 of the M54 to the village of Little Wenlock.

Bridgnorth to Ironbridge-Experience beautiful countryside as you follow the scenic path of a disused railway above the banks of the River Severn (10 miles).

Around the Wrekin-Take the challenge to ride all round the Wrekin or simply enjoy the views from the Mercian Way between the World Heritage Site at Ironbridge andUpton Magna (36 miles full circuit).

Shrewsbury to Whitchurch-Explore some of Shropshire's hidden byways as you cycle through north Shropshire (30 miles).

All four leaflets are available from local tourist information centres, or online.

Links to other routes
